Best Books for Female Entrepreneurs
When you decide to pick up a book, and admitting that actually you could do to take some advice from other women who are further along their journey to success and happiness than you are in yours, Amazon can be a difficult thing to navigate.
So I ran to my nearest Waterstones and spent a while browsing the shelves whilst looking at the business books section on Amazon. Here are a few of the best reads I’ve picked off the shelves and been recommended by others - I can’t help recommending them to others and passing on my old copies.
1. #Girlboss
I stumbled upon Girlboss when I decided I should start reading up on business. It was the very first book I read and ever since I started reading I couldn’t put it down. Sophia Amoruso, founder of Nasty Gal pens a book about how she started Nasty Gal, lessons she learnt along the way, and how you too can be a Girlboss by living by the lessons she learnt.
The thing I love about this book is that it’s for career girls and girls who own businesses. Either way, we’re all Girlbosses in the end. It’s also a great book to start with if you’re not into self help books. It’s essentially a story of Sophia’s life with some life and career lessons snuck in - there is a proper narrative that is addictive to follow!
If like me you read it and can’t get enough, Girlboss has an inspirational weekly podcast with Girlbosses from all over the globe, and even better a Netflix series is coming later this month.
2. Life changing magic of not giving a f**k
Even if you think you're the type of person who doesn’t give a f**k, we can all learn a lesson or two from this book. It’s a very witty read and will teach you how to spend less time giving a f**k about the things you don't care about, so you have more time to do the other things you do.
3. It’s not what you say it’s how you say it
I’ve always been a writer, not a speaker. I always manage to get my point across well the first time when I write it down, but it never seems to come across the same way during verbal conversations. However, in life and especially in business it’s important to learn how to handle all verbal communication - including speeches and interpersonal communication - in a sensible manner. If like me, you always end up saying the wrong thing then this book is definitely for you.
It tells you how to argue your point, and how to support these points. It’s a small book, a short read, and also an easy read which is easy to refer back to if you need to, with illustrations on each page!
My dad actually recommended and gave this book to me after I said I sometimes find it hard to get my point across verbally - so why not ask the people around you if they’ve read any books that could help with particular weaknesses of yours? You might be pleasantly surprised.
4. Brand Famous: How to Get Everyone Talking About Your Business - Linzi Boyd
If you're looking to get some tips on branding or re-branding your business, this book is like no other. Essentially it tells you how to make your brand a house-hold name.
It's full of inspiring, practical advice by communications guru Linzi Boyd. Her agency has helped elevate some of our most loved brands and high street stores in the UK. Linzi shares the tools and processes she created and used with these famous businesses.
I've not yet finished this book. I've got a few on the go, but it's very visual which is brilliant if you're a visual learner.
5. If I Could Tell You Just One Thing - Richard Reed
If you like learning from the advice of others, no matter what their path in life is then this book is for you. Richard Reed, the founder of Innocent Smoothies credits his success to four pieces of advice from brilliant people when he needed it the most. Now, whenever he's inspired by someone he asks them for a piece of advice. If they could tell him one thing, what would it be?
From Hollywood legend Judy Dench, to music mogul Simon Cowell, Tennis star Andy Murray, all the way to Katie Piper, this book is bursting with inspiring thoughts from inspiring people.
