4 Things That Will Change When You Start Your Own Business

1. You’ll have very little money

If you’re self funding a business, you’ll quickly come to the realisation that you have to sacrifice money to begin with in order to succeed. The task here is not letting this bring you down. Don’t see weakness in asking for help from family members, see it as a positive thing. Think how amazing it will feel when you can pay them back.

2. You won’t be able to go out as much

The downside to having very little money is having to turn down birthday invitations, going on holidays, or just the small things like going out for dinner. The one thing I made sure that I did to begin with was to have one day a week or every two weeks where I would treat myself to a meal out, or a glass of wine with my friends.

If you can’t even do this, then don’t sweat it. Your friends should understand…and if they don’t, then ask yourself if they’re worth having around. If they can’t help you in times of struggle, then why should they be there to celebrate your success?

3. You will have days when you want to give up

Everyone has days when they want to give up - but that’s the same for everyone whether you’re in full time employment or running your own business. Find some new inspiration, make a plan to overcome troubles, and pull through it. You started for a reason, and you can do this!

4. Everyone will tell you what they think

Everyone has an opinion, the trick is dealing with it. I often have people say “You know what you should do…” or “I wouldn’t have done it like that”. Be gracious and listen to what they have to say. You never know, you might be able to take something positive away from it…
