How to move a Blog from one Squarespace site to another
So…you’re redesigning your Squarespace website? We get it, the newer building function is much easier to use and allows you to have multiple features from lots of the older Squarespace templates all in the same website! But…how do you go about moving your blog from your old Squarespace site to your new one?
Here we explain a nifty little trick to get around it…
Open up your current Squarespace site. Under the menu click Settings, then Advanced and then Import / Export.
Click the export button and choose Wordpress. It will take a little time to export.
Once it has finished exporting, press download. It will save a XML file in your downloads folder.
Create a free account on Wordpress and create your site (the blog name and domain doesn’t matter).
You should be directed to this home page. You then need to click Tools > Import.
Select Squarespace and import your XML file.
This will start the import which may take a few minutes depending on the file size.
Once these files are finished importing, you will need to start exporting.
Depending on what content you want to export you can either click export all or press the down arrow.
Here you can choose which content you would like to export. If you are just trying to move your blog content across to another website, click posts. Then click export selected content.
You will then be emailed a link to your exported content.
Press download, this will automatically download a zip folder. You need to open up this zip file when it has downloaded.
Go onto your new Squarespace site and navigate to import.
Then import and press the Wordpress option and select Advanced. Here you can upload the XML file from the ZIP folder you opened.
Your blog will then be imported by Squarespace!
