5 Tips to Instantly Boost Your Career and Confidence

As millenials, we often feel low job satisfaction. There are a number of theories for this, including the anger inducing word 'entitlement'. Whatever the reason, there are a few ways to instantly boost your career, and work place happiness.

1. Say 'YES!' more

The word 'No' or complaining that 'this isn't part of my job description' is a big red flag. Essentially what you're saying is 'I can't be bothered'.

Consider saying the big 3 letter word YES. Mucking in, helping out where you're needed and doing things that "aren't part of your job" will get your noticed. People in the workplace like other people who make life easier so consider saying YES and being one of them.

You may even learn a new skill or two on the way!

2. Work out what your goals are and make an achievable plan to get there

In the first few years of your job you perhaps aren't seeing the end goal - and that's ok. Our careers can take unexpected turns at any point. If you know where you want to go in your current job then start with that. This could be as simple getting promoted from an account executive to an account manager. Ask your line manager what you need to do to get there, and set out some strategic steps to make sure you're making those small steps everyday.

The dream of being promoted motivates most of us because it means more money, and more responsibility.

3. Don't be afraid to air your ideas

No matter how practical the idea is, being someone who shares their ideas with the team is a brilliant quality. You'll become known as the go-to idea gal, and you'll be included in more brainstorms and group discussions. It's all about making the most of your current role and squeezing as much as you can out of the experience.

If you're looking for a job, make sure you're doing all of these things in your current role to give you an edge and something to talk about at an interview.

4. Do the worst thing on your to-do list first

Don't procrastinate on nasty tasks, you'll have a grey cloud looming over your head for the whole day. It's amazing how productive the rest of your day will be if you get the worst out of the way first thing!

5. Remind yourself - you are the shit

When someone puts you down at work or makes you doubt your greatness, don't run to the bathroom and cry. A good cry very rarely makes you feel better and you'll have puffy eyes upon returning to your desk.

Take the bad shit in your stride - life can't be an easy ride the whole time. Take the things that scare you and turn them into something great.

If you were wrong about something - admit to your mistakes.

If you didn't do or forgot about something - rectify the situation and learn from your mistakes.

If someone is giving you grief and it's making you doubt your greatness, then they're probably just using it as a method to boost their self-worth.

Instead of heading to the bathroom and crying - head to the bathroom and tell yourself "I am the shit" you'll definitely feel 100 times better.
